About Scent or Skip
Fragrance context for people who want a decision, not more hype
Scent or Skip is an independent guide to Middle Eastern perfumes, designer-inspired alternatives and the tradeoffs buyers should understand before choosing a bottle.
01 / Purpose
Why this site exists
Middle Eastern fragrance is a large and fast-moving category, but buying advice is often scattered across retailer copy, short-form videos, forums and clone lists. Scent or Skip turns that fragmented information into structured comparisons.
The goal is not to crown one bottle as universally “best.” It is to explain scent direction, context and compromise clearly enough that a reader can build a sensible shortlist.
02 / Method
How research becomes a guide
We begin with information that can be checked: the exact fragrance and flanker, concentration, published notes, brand description and recurring comparison claims. We then separate those facts from subjective impressions.
Verify
Product identity
Brand, version, concentration and published note structure.
Compare
Scent direction
Opening, heart, drydown and the accord that creates the resemblance.
Contextualize
Wearability
Climate, occasion, sweetness, density and likely preference fit.
Decide
The tradeoff
What becomes cheaper or easier, and what is lost in the change.
03 / Language
What our labels mean
Terms such as “recognizable direction,” “same scent family” and “close concept” are deliberately less absolute than a percentage score. Unless a review documents a specific test, the site does not present community consensus as first-hand laboratory evidence.
“Dupe” means a recognizable lower-priced alternative in this publication. It does not mean an identical formula, counterfeit product or guaranteed substitute.
04 / Independence
Commercial relationships do not buy a verdict
Scent or Skip currently has no active affiliate purchase links. If affiliate links, gifted products or paid placements are introduced, the relationship will be disclosed close to the relevant content.
Advertising or commission may support the site in the future, but it will not determine whether a fragrance receives a positive conclusion. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
05 / Corrections
Fragrance information changes
Products are reformulated, renamed, discontinued and released in new concentrations. Retail listings can also contain errors. If you find an incorrect note, version or comparison, send the exact page and a reliable source through the contact page.
